EDGE HILL:
Although there isn't a whole lot to observe above ground, the jewel
is what lies underneath and it tells a completely separate story.
A man by the name of Joseph Williamson (nicknamed the mole of Edge
Hill) decided in 1821 to build a masive series of sub terrain tunnels
and caves. The tunnels encompass whole houses as well as a massive
dining area. When Robert Stephenson was improving the Lime Streat
Railway Station, he came across this incredible sight.
SPEKE:
The airport is located in this part of town and so its a really
busy location. Its about seven miles away from the center of Liverpool
and the airport is recognised as Britain's speedily growing regional
airport and boasts some excellent facilities. Close by is the New
Mersey Retail Park which has vast array of department stores and
High Street fashion shops such as Next, Boots, as well as PC World
and Power City. Speke Hall, which dates back to 1490, is one of
the UK's finest historic houses, and is located in this area. It
has beautiful grounds with lovely woodlands and it tells the history
of the different eras of England’s history.
TOXTETH:
What was once the home of the rich sea merchants fell into a run
down area in recent years. But these days its going through a re-generation
programme and vast improvements are being carried out to what is
now a multi cultural area and the beauty of its buildings is once
again visible for all to see. If its architecture one wants to view
in this area, why not see Europe's finest sample of Moorish architecture
when you visit the Synagogue at Princes Road.
